Revealer, Take 3

The Revealer published another piece I wrote -- yay! This time I took on Nicholas Kristof! But he really needed to be chastened.

And at least my busy-ness is resulting in tangible rewards!

Congratulations on the publication. I just read your article and didn't quite get the first point.

He says:
Those stereotypes are largely derived from the less than 20 percent of Muslims who are Arabs, with Persians and Pashtuns thrown in as well. But the great majority of the world’s Muslims live not in the Middle East but here in Asia, where religion has mostly been milder

All he seems to be doing here is segmenting the muslim population into 2 smaller subsets and stating that the stereotype arises from a small portion of the 20 percent subset. Are you saying that he is wrong in that assertion?
From the paragraph you pasted, he did not seem to be condoning these stereotypes, just stating that those stereotypes, justified or not, come from an extremely small population.

MJ: i see your point and why you would think that -- and isolated, the paragraph seems okay. but in the context of the rest of his piece, this is the message he seems to be sending -- that some stereotypes are ok. kristof isn't an idiot, so i suspect the message was the result of sloppy journalism and was unintentional to a degree. but there's a big problem with letting the little details go when you're addressing an audience that's not terribly well-read about this stuff in the first place.
